Preparing your Zirela® Nebulizer System

QUINSAIR® is specifically designed for the management of chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections for adult patients with cystic fibrosis.

Welcome to your Zirela® Nebulizer System. There are a number of steps you must follow before its use. This is a step-by-step guide on how to get started correctly.

Setting up your Zirela® Nebulizer Handset

Check that you have everything you need.

i. Clean and disinfect all parts thoroughly before first use

- Zirela® Nebulizer Handset

- AC power cable and adaptors

- e-Flow® rapid controller

- nebulizer connection cord

- batteries

- QUINSAIR® ampoules

Get to know your handset

The handset is comfortable to use and easy to assemble.

- cap seal

- medication cap

- aerosol head

- medication reservoir

- blue valve

- blue flap

- mouthpiece

Step 1:

Open medication reservoir

Pull up tab on medication reservoir to release aerosol chamber.

Step 2:

Insert the aerosol head

Pick up aerosol head touching outer edge only.

- Do not touch metal membrane in the centre

Step 2:

Insert the aerosol head

Squeezing gently onto connectors on the sides, push aerosol head into place until you hear it engage with a soft click.

- Do not touch metal membrane in the centre

Step 3:

Insert the blue valve

Place the blue valve flat against the rim of the chamber, with flat edge towards the hinge.

i. Make sure both valve wings are flat

Step 4:

Secure the aerosol chamber

Now close the aerosol chamber.

Step 4:

Secure the aerosol chamber

by gently raising locking clip on the reservoir to secure.

Step 5:

Connect the mouthpiece

Attach mouthpiece to nebulizer handset with blue flap facing upwards.

Step 6:

Attach the adaptor connection cord

Place adaptor onto hinge of aerosol chamber and push upwards to engage the metal contacts.

Step 7:

Connect the Zirela® Nebulizer Handset to the controller

Place controller onto flat surface and push round end of connection cord into the socket on the front of the controller.

Your Zirela® Nebulizer System is now ready for use

Using your Zirela® Nebulizer System

Preparing your nebulizer for your treatment

The Zirela® Nebulizer Handset offers high-efficiency delivery of QUINSAIR® directly to the airways in approximately 5 minutes. Here, we show you how to use your nebulizer correctly, so that your treatment is quick and easy.

i. The Zirela® Nebulizer Handset must only to be used with your QUINSAIR® treatment, and should not be used for any other medication or treatment

Battery power or mains for complete flexibility and portability

Open the battery door on the controller by releasing the clip and load the 4x AA batteries as shown.

Connect the power cable

Push the round end of the cable into the socket at the front of the controller, and slide on the AC plug adaptor.

i. Make sure the adaptor is secure in its housing

i. QUINSAIR® dosing regimen

- QUINSAIR® provides a convenient dosing schedule. Please follow the exact dosing as given by your healthcare team

- Recommended dosage is 240 mg (one ampoule) inhaled twice-daily at 12-hour intervals

- QUINSAIR® is taken in alternating cycles of 28 days on treatment followed by 28 days off treatment

- Cyclical therapy may be continued for as long as your healthcare team considers that you are obtaining clinical benefit

i. Order of medication

You may benefit from the use of short-acting inhaled bronchodilator at least 15 minutes to 4 hours prior to QUINSAIR® treatment

If you are taking multiple inhaled therapies, the recommended order is1:

1. Bronchodilators

2. Dornase alfa

3. Airway clearance techniques

4. QUINSAIR®

5. Inhaled steroids

Fill the medication reservoir

Place the controller and the handset on a flat, stable surface. Unscrew the medication cap by twisting anti-clockwise.

i. IMPORTANT: Wash hands each time before you take your treatment

Fill the medication reservoir

Pour your dose of QUINSAIR® into the medication reservoir.

i. Only use your prescription QUINSAIR® medication in the Zirela® Nebulizer Handset

Fill the medication reservoir

Replace cap, twist clockwise until tab slots engage with tabs with a soft click.

Switch on the Zirela® Nebulizer System

Your Zirela® Nebulizer System is now ready for use.

Press and hold the on/off button for a few seconds. You will hear one beep and the status light will illuminate green.

Switch on the Zirela® Nebulizer System

The e-Flow® logo will appear on the screen.

After a few seconds, the aerosol mist will begin to flow into the aerosol chamber and the screen will display the nebulizing icon.

Breathe deeply and calmly

Sit in a relaxed upright position.

Place mouthpiece between your lips, and close your mouth around it. Breathe in and out through the mouthpiece until treatment is complete.

i. EFFECTIVE: Medication reaches deep into the lungs1

Fast 5-minute treatment

After about 5 minutes, your treatment is finished.

The screen indicator will show a tick and the controller will switch off automatically.

Keep the handset level

If handset is tilted, the controller will beep and after 30 seconds will turn off. To resume treatment, hold the handset level and switch on.

i. If the handset is tilted, your dosage of QUINSAIR® may not be accurate

Pausing treatment

You can pause your treatment if you need to, by simply pressing the on/off button for one second. The LED will flash green, and screen will display the PAUSE symbol. To resume treatment, press the on/off button again for one second.

Less than 2% of QUINSAIR® remains in the medication reservoir.

Part 3:

Looking After Your Zirela® Nebulizer System

It is crucial to keep your nebulizer and handset completely clean, to prevent bacterial contamination.

The Zirela® Nebulizer Handset has been designed to be quick and easy to maintain. This is how to keep your nebulizer clean and safe for use.

Looking after your Zirela® Nebulizer Handset

Clean you Zirela® Nebulizer Handset immediately after use and disinfect at night after your last treatment. This will prevent bacterial growth.

Dismantle the Zirela® Nebulizer Handset

Dismantle the handset in the following order:

- connection cord and adaptor

- mouthpiece

- medication cap

- aerosol head

- blue valve

i. Don’t forget to switch the device off and unplug from the mains before cleaning

Cleaning

Soak all parts in warm soapy water for 5 minutes.

Rinse and allow to dry

Rinse all parts under running water and leave to dry on a clean dry absorbent surface. Rinse aerosol head for at least 1-minute.

Take extra care with the aerosol head

The aerosol head is very delicate, so:

- DO NOT put in microwave

- DO NOT clean in dishwasher

- DO NOT clean with any brush or cloth

Disinfect at the end of the day

15 minutes

Place all dismantled parts of the handset, including aerosol head into a steam sterilizer and disinfect for at least 15 minutes.

i. You can also disinfect by boiling for at least 5 minutes in distilled water

Storing your nebulizer

Place clean dry unassembled parts into nebulizer bag and keep in a dry, dust free environment. Only re-assemble just before next use.
